I personally have over 12,000 completed tasks with credit, and the numbers keep climbing. Do they ever roll over the completed tasks? Or will it continue to rise? George |

I personally have over 12,000 completed tasks with credit, and the numbers keep climbing. I don't ever remember them ever purging the database since I've been crunching Universe tasks. But the results could be falling off the task talley and I wouldn't have noticed it. Must have though as my oldest task is 5 July 2022 and I was crunching Universe back in May 2020. So that answers your question. Older completed tasks are purged from your account. FYI, I have over 32K on my account. A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

They hang around for a month. When the servers were being smashed by the contest, it was one of the suggestions i made to help reduce the server load- reduce the period that the results are held in the active database from one month to 1 week (3 or 4 days would be better, but just culling things by 75% would have to have given the database a big performance lift without having all those other old results still hanging around). Thank you for responding to my inquiry. I do know the same applies to E@H also, but they definitely run off a different standard for BOINC. .....[EDIT]..... I just noticed on the Server Status page (Universe) that there is a "db_purge" line listed as "running". Would that be meant for purging the database? Was that line there before? George |

I just noticed on the Server Status page (Universe) that there is a "db_purge" line listed as "running". Would that be meant for purging the database? Was that line there before?Yep. Generally BOINC is setup so that Tasks that are sent out & results returned are all in the Main (active) database. When results have been returned & Validated (or confirmed as Errors/Invalids), they are then transferred to the Science database. Once that happens, they can then be deleted from the Main database (generally deleting them just makes them no longer visible to queries, they are just marked for deletion, but they are still there- that's what the purging does, actually remove all the deleted records). It's up to the project to determine how long to keep Validated Errored/Invalid results in the Main database after they have been transferred to the Science database- they could be deleted immediately, but usually they're kept for few days so people can check how their systems are going. I can't see any reason for keeping them for more than a week, but that's what they do here. Lots of extra load for the Main database systems, for no gain. *shrug* Grant Darwin NT |

db_purge is set to 7 days here. Krzysztof 'krzyszp' Piszczek Member of Radioactive@Home team My Patreon profile Universe@Home on YT |

I was all set to post a response, when i thought i should have a closer look at my results- and those month long ones are due to the resends of Tasks due to missed deadlines. Otherwise they are culled after 7 days. My apologies. *slaps self* Grant Darwin NT |

Otherwise they are culled after 7 days. Don't apologise. db_purge doesn't work perfectly. Sometimes I see in database tasks a year old and not deleted. I'm clearing it myself manually. I’m not sure if this is the right place to post. I understand that it is not possible to see the actual tasks since they get removed but is it possible to get a total count for each of my machines? |

I’m not sure if this is the right place to post. No, not really. You sorta can approximate it by dividing the total credit of each host by 666 and that would show the number of validated tasks it has processed. But that also would ignore any invalids or errors you processed. Also remember that the credit awarded for validated tasks was halved a year ago, so that also throws the estimation off. I’m not sure if this is the right place to post.Open the BOINC Manager, View,Advanced view (if not already in use), Projects tab, select Universe@Home, Properties button. Near the bottom of the General section are Tasks Completed & Tasks Failed. Grant Darwin NT |

Thank you both. I’ll have to give up on the idea. @Keith - Valid tasks would have been good enough. But your noting of the credit change throws a wrench in the works. @Grant - Unfortunately, I have had to reinstall BOINC a few times. Mostly due to: https://boinc.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=14506 That may have thrown off the readings. For example, my MLC tasks show as 199 even though I’ve done > 2k for that project (their website preserves task count). |

The other option is your account page for the given project, Computers, Details, Application details- show. But i'm not sure if the Number of tasks completed includes errored/ aborted/ Validation inconclusive Tasks or not. And if they have half a dozen or more applications, then you'd need to add everything up yourself. Grant Darwin NT |

Thanks. That’s why I asked here. My account page shows nothing. I’ve been contributing solely to Einstein for a few weeks and I think that absence is all it took to wipe out all my numbers. I have total credit & RAC of course, just not anything beyond those. |

One was created 3 April 2022 and shows "Number of tasks completed 901" It last contacted the server on Sept 19th. Computer ID: 618325 The other system was created on the 14 Oct 2022 and has a single Task which it is yet to return. Computer ID: 634777 Grant Darwin NT |

Interesting. They’re both the same computer. When I login, I see all my computers properly merged. So I tried viewing my profile without logging in and then I see what you see. However, I still don’t see the 901 number of tasks. Could you point me to how you found that? |

Thanks. I only see 1 task which I had already aborted but shows as In Progress. I’ll just go with the 901 that Grant found. Has to be the right number. I appreciate everyone’s help and time. |

Weird. When i made that post, both systems showed as belonging to your account (same CPU, OS & OS version). Now one of them shows as Anonymous. Grant Darwin NT |
