1) Message boards : Number crunching : WU completion times (Message 3998)

WU run times on Windows are significantly longer than on Linux. Have a look at the top computer list:
https://universeathome.pl/universe/top_hosts.php

Dominated by Linux machines.
My 3900X with Ubuntu 19.04 currently needs just a bit more than an hour per WU. 1-2 weeks back this was down to ~25 minutes, WUs must have been shorter / less intense then...

Running Universe within a Linux-VM achieves almost native Linux speed, you could try that.

I will try Linux then.

One of my hosts equipped with Xeon E5-2650L v4 @ 1.70GHz calculates tasks within 2.5 to 3 hrs on average (Linux OS)

The other host whit i3-2100 @ 3.1GHz needs more than 6 hours to complete one task (WIndows 10 OS).

Why such a big difference in calculation times?

Yoyo also works for Android 9.

Instant fail on my Android 9.0.

Whoops, I saw it downloaded some work and didn't check further. All fail for me too.

Yoyo worked fine on Android 6.

This thread is going off-topic now.
I would suggest moving the discussion about credit to another thread.

Probably you got new work units (batch _283_) which work on new computation data set.

Thanks, Krzysztof.

Is this one from a new batch?

Hello,

I noticed that some of my tasks run for nearly 3 hours compared to the usual 1h 15m, approximately. This is happening on the same Linux host with i3-2100 CPU.
Any particular reason why?

@ AruPi

Wrong thread. Plus, you have to be more specific other than 'I have computation error',

My OnePlus 5T, after upgrading to Android 9, doesn't receive other WUs. What is the problem?

What U@H has got to do with other projects?

Nope, everything will download from the server automatically. You can see the app version and date implemented here:
https://universeathome.pl/universe/apps.php

Thanks.

Thanks for the info, Krzysztof.

PS.

Would it be and issue to remove jibberish messages posted by Ray?
Unless they are here for a reason.

Thank you for this. It's nice to understand what my computers are working on!

What kind of data do you see in a completed work unit? Is it a full evolutionary story of a given system, or is it just a tiny piece of data that needs to be combined with many other work units in order for it to make any sense?

Still now answer. I am, too, courious what actual completed WU would look like and what it would contain.

Happy to contribute - people like you are the forefathers of future DC efforts. I hope my $5 per month combined with all other contributions allows you to keep this project alive. Hardware isnt cheap and we all know time is preciously limited, but so is being able to pursue what you are passionate about.

The arrogance of some of the messages here is shocking. You gave us something to be passionate about too, and some people think the right thing for you is to pay us? Basically thanks for nothing and a slap across the face for all your effort over the years?

@Paul Derbyshite - You can join Gridcoin to get some recompense for your efforts. Not a bad place and a fledgling crypto, all in the name of computing for humankind.

I guess it is quite easy for ordinary users who just let program run on theirs computers to forget that maintaning such project is not so easy and it needs time, skills and effort.

I didn't think about it either and I am sorry for being arrogant and ungrateful.

It's a pity that univeristy is no longer funding this project. On the other hand it's good to know that at least hardware and electricity is provided free of charge.

I might not be able to donate every month and try to make some one off contribution from time to time.

I think the goals on Patreon site shows clearly where founds will go...

I just need to manage where I have to put my time. The project don't get any funds from long time (only space in server room and it's electricity).
I'm not an CAMK employee (never bin)...
Currently I just have choice - continue managing the project or spend my spare time on other work.

Hi Krzysztof,

Are you trying to say that you would like to get paid for managing this project?

Hi Paul,

I don't get paid either and thousands other volunteers, too. And what I get in return? Some bages, certificates, and satisfaction in participating in project that appeals to me as interesting and useful. Does it cost me? Sure it does. But I am not trying to race with anyone, I don't own super beefed up rig and I run this and few other projects on rather dated equipment.

I guess nobody asks anyone to run they computers or servers 24h/365 days. It's completely voluntarily.
