I have CANCELED THE REMAINING "niverse_ulx" Tasks on my computer. No use to waste my time/resources on bad work with NO CREDIT!
22) Message boards : Number crunching : Completed, can't validate (Message 1606) Posted 1 Oct 2016 by Dr Who Fan Post: Have 2 tasks with the following "error": Completed, can't validate WORK UNITS: 7140050 & 7150922 Upon further inspection, my PC COMPLETED these 2 tasks but for some reason the SERVER CANCLED OUT SENDING THE OTHER 2 TASKS to the other users with the error code "Didn't need".... Work was completed so why did I not RECEIVE CREDIT?

I strongly suspect that is something wrong with your configuration (but, I haven't any machine with win8.1 for tests). THAT PC HAS NO PROBLEMS WITH ANY OTHER Universe task or ANY OTHER PROJECTS TASKS - ONLY the UV reionization tasks. PROBLEMS IS NOT WIN 8.1 If you re-read what I said the tasks are FAILING FOR EVERYONE CRUNCHING THEM!

27) Message boards : News : Longer work units (Message 728) Posted 10 Nov 2015 by Dr Who Fan Post: SIMPLEST thing to do for ALL Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware and most "smart" Firewall programs is to EXLUDE the BOINC PROGRAM and BOINC DATA Folders from ACTIVE and PASSIVE SCAN(s). This will resolve MOST FALSE POSITIVE "alarm(s)"; PREVENT blocking of BOINC communication and let BOINC Projects run without "user intervention".

I have changed my preferences for home and work several times in past 6 weeks or so but IT NEVER PROPAGATES TO THE CLIENT/PC/TABLET... CLIENT SEEMS TO ONLY READ "DEFAULT" PREFERENCES when IT communicates with the project server(s).
