The time has come to inform you about what will happen next with the Universe@Home project. As you know, Krzysztof Belczyński was the initiator and lead scientist of the project - he was the head of our small team. His sudden passing caused a bit of chaos, which we are gradually trying to manage. Unfortunately, the latest changes in the application code that were being implemented also disappeared with him. For this reason, as well as the necessity to introduce changes to the application code that had been planned for some time, we have decided to temporarily suspend the generation of new WUs. As of today, we already know that Universe@Home will not end - it is being taken under the wing of Prof. Tomasz Bulik (https://nauka-polska.pl/#/profile/scientist?id=23855&lang=en&_k=ta6rhj). Nevertheless, we must ask for your patience; at this moment, the most important thing is to manage the organizational and formal matters and to work on the changes in the code. This should take us two to three months. I will keep you updated. Krzysztof 'krzyszp' Piszczek Member of Radioactive@Home team My Patreon profile Universe@Home on YT |

2-3 months downtime but the project continues. Sounds more than fine to me. Thank you for the update. Look forward to crunching more work in the future. |

I want to pass along my best wishes to the family of Krzysztof Belczyński and your small team, you are going through a lot. I deeply appreciate your work on furthering the application and the work of Prof. Tomasz Bulik to take on managing the project. Good luck, and thank you very much for all of your hard work. |

My condolence, it is really sad. But good that you continue Universe@home, I guess this is what he would have wanted. Maybe use some source code management tool like Git to not lose work. Maybe even use GitHub and make it open source so everyone could help? Or is this not possible for this project? |

Main source code is safe, just very last changes are missing, but we can solve the problem. Other matter is in sources IP rights which are now in Krzysztof's family hands. I'm pretty sure that they allow to use it but I don't know about they plans to open it... Krzysztof 'krzyszp' Piszczek Member of Radioactive@Home team My Patreon profile Universe@Home on YT |

Dude you just have to be patient, it will happen when it happens. . I check once a week to see if there are any tasks, outside of that I'm busy crunching other projects. In the mean time there are other projects that you can crunch, including many great space based ones. I just hope it does come back. We've seen it with other BOINC projects, when the main person quits or retires the funding stops and the support is gone forcing the project to close up shop. |

Dude you just have to be patientWe have been, and still are. We were told that it would be down for around 3 months; it's now over 3 months. There has been no further news, there is still no new work, so asking for an update is not an unreasonable request. We've seen it with other BOINC projects, when the main person quits or retires the funding stops and the support is gone forcing the project to close up shop. And if that is the case, it would be nice to be informed about it. Since that hasn't happened, we're assuming that there is still working being done to continue the project. It just would be nice to know, one way or the other. Grant Darwin NT |

Hi Krzysztof, Just wondered how you are getting on with updating the software? I don't want to put you under pressure, but it's been four months since the last update and we're all hungry for WU's! All the best, Pieter. |
