It's got an old version of BOINC on it (which can cause issues when trying to add Rosetta), upgrade it to the current version, then try your luck. BOINC doesn't update automatically, you need to download the latest version & install it over the currently installed version. By the looks of it, his problems are with his i7 system that has the latest version of BOINC.... With Boinc 7.24.1 are sometimes problem with adding projects. Downgrade to 7.22 will help.
