Message 5059 - Posted: 29 Jan 2022, 12:43:09 UTC - in response to Message 5055.

Just got info:
"Disks estimated arrival time: 01-FEB-2022".

Good news is "remote hands" will replace it for me as soon as disks arrives, then in one or maximum two days later move whole system to them. Another good news is the new disks will be much faster and allow me to make more spare tasks on same time.

Over 7.000 WUs are still in progress and falling very slowly to 0. Maybe you should break them up and resent the WUs for a faster way to 0 ?

Or just shorten the timeouts, whatever they are. I don't recall.

Sure send them out! I could have them done in about 3 days.

We still waiting for stuff completion. I hope, we move to new disks on next weekend and I will break outstanding tasks or try to just save them and continue after operation. We will see how it will go :)

Just resend with short deadlines. A few of us will take care of them in short order. ;)

Small update.

As unfortunately it was not possible to arrange the disk replacement this weekend, I decided to generate some jobs.
When I know the date of the replacement, I will suspend the server for a few hours needed to perform this operation.

What is the holdup with the disks? Anyway, glad to see it can run with the old ones just now. Engage!

Message 5074 - Posted: 6 Feb 2022, 8:33:14 UTC

just curious(when there is time for it);

1.)
The recent server problem comes as with current load we have massive traffic between main and storage server and between main and database server.

I'm working in it but still can't recognize what exactly makes troubles in whole system.

. . . we need to replace two hard drives on main server - currently used are dying now.

Was the "massive traffic" because the hard drives are "dying" or are the hard drives "dying" because of the "massive traffic" ?

2.)
Anyway, I will prepare website monitoring script for better reactivity in case of major problems in future.

Your not planning to use Log4j do you?

3.)
then I will go to Warsaw . . . "remote hands" will replace it for me

Are you managing this project from the UK?

1. The load was the problem and hard drives itself. The main server disks are in fact oldest disks in project. We need replace old hard drives to SSD's.
2. No, I wrote script in PHP myself and run monitoring from my own machine. W not use Log4j at all.
3. No, I'm living now in Opole, Poland.

And another news from this night... I have Covid... Again... (Yes, I got two vaccines, was waiting for third). So, I'm on isolation for next 10 days but... This means that I have more time to work with server room friends remotely.

Hope you get well soon. I love the way you keep on working when ill! These vaccines are useless. I haven't bothered getting one.

I hope you are doing well, Krzysztof. and I wish you a very speedy recovery
with no issues. Thank you for making more WU available. My little pi
cluster is back chugging away. While univer@home was down I tried
signing onto einstein@home but I seemed to generate very little work units
completed for time spent (ARM processors just not powerful enough, I guess).

Thanks for the quick answers and I wish you a speedy recovery or a very mild case in the first place. And good luck with the new SSDs . . .
