I didn't understand what you meant when you questioned the windows code for crunching work units.
After seeing your performance on Linux, I ran another test.
I kept windows as the OS and installed a virtual machine with ubuntu in it just to see the difference in execution time. Here is a tutorial And incredibly, I get the same performance gains as you.(x2).
I understand better now the leaderboard ranking where the first places are given to linux.
I advise each windows cruncher to do the same.You'll spend less electricity to do the same amount of scientific work.
By the way , it seems there is maybe a difference between the linux distros.
The first 8 cores (40 nth) and the first 4 cores (46 nth) both run arch linux.This is maybe worth exploring further...for linux crunchers...
