Hi,

I started crunching Universe@Home with a pcDuino8uno yesterday. It's running ubuntu 14.04.

Here are the specs of the machine: http://www.linksprite.com/pcduino8-uno/

Here is the host data: http://universeathome.pl/universe/show_host_detail.php?hostid=81650

The CPU is an AllWinner H8 8-Core Cortex-A7. Long story short, BOINC initially recognized all 8 cores. Then it only recognized 6. Now it's only recognizing 4.

Has anyone experienced this before?

Here's the event log data:

rebooted after some connection issues, and now it's crunching on all 8 cores (at least for now)... i'm lost... :'(

Seems like a general BOINC thing vs a project error:

Was the # of CPUs in BM changed by chance? Or memory/storage/etc limits hit by chance?

I adjusted my memory usage up to the maximum. I'm not sure if this corresponded with the decrease from 8 cores to 6 cores or not. But, when I did notice that it was only using 6 cores, I manually ran a benchmark to try to get back up to 8. I think this was when it dropped to 4 cores.

You can solve this problem very easy:
Open with editor
/etc/boinc-client/cc_config.xml
and add (over last line) :

<options>
<ncpus>8</ncpus>
</options>

Save it and restart boinc and all 8 core run.

Thank you very much, if it acts up again I'll give that a try.

I don't think its a Boinc issue, if you did not install a heatsink or fan on the processor it will shut down 2 cores when it gets too hot, 2 more if it still getting hot, and will run 4 for extended periods of time no problem. Mine does the same thing, I have some generic heatsinks coming in from china and when they get here I'll let you know if it helps.

After installing the heatsinks it would run all 8 cores for about 5 mins before shutting 4 cores down, so I went to the other extreme and hand built a case and added a 70mm fan it may have been overkill but all 8 cores are running now.

Mine have always stayed pretty cool. They have heatsinks and also sit right in front of a fan. My fix was to edit the cc_config.xml file (see JagDoc's post above).
