Most Threadrippers have a significantly lower base, and somewhat lower boost, clock speeds.Which is what I thought. A threadripper should get more Asteroids done per hour than I do. And even mine is as good as Keith's GPU. Over at the political activism Einstein site, GPU work goes at least an order of magnitude faster on GPU. |

But then you mention the threadripper. Mine is a Ryzen 9 3900XT, not 7900. Can you link to a threadripper so I can have a look? I find it hard to believe they aren't way faster than mine. Sorry, forgot which Ryzen you have. The #2 Top Participant is a TR 3970X Threadripper. https://asteroidsathome.net/boinc/results.php?hostid=708920 Similar core count as your 3900XT - 12 cores/24 threads. He is running even faster than yours. 1900 seconds per task. NOT running hyperthreaded at 32 threads. Reported 41 tasks in the same scheduler connection. He is keeping the clock rate up at boost obviously by not running hyperthreaded. https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+Ryzen+Threadripper+3970X&id=3623 3.7Ghz base clock. But more likely closer to the 4.5Ghz boost clock based on the runtimes. This host proves your point. But I assert this host in an outlier from the general population. The most common and numerous processor is some Intel cpu, probably trending toward a Xeon with their lower clock speeds and longer runtimes. A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

All clock cycles are not equal. But all clock cycles are cumulative. And every completed Task is the same .... Done |

Sorry, forgot which Ryzen you have. The #2 Top Participant is a TR 3970X Threadripper. There are fast and slow CPUs, there are fast and slow GPUs. But on Asteroids, a fast CPU does as well as a fast GPU. On Einstein, a fast GPU severely outpaces a fast CPU. So it's best to put your GPU on Einstein, and your CPU on Asteroids. If a GPU can do the equivalent of 20 CPUs in Eintsein, or the equivalent of 1 CPU in Asteroids, Einstein is the obvious choice. |

You have a lot of knowledge to share. And with a more moderate delivery more people might gain something instead of tuning you out. |

Does the term "bull in a china shop" ring a bell and give you an inspiration ? |

Why does that not surprise me.I thought my post would fly over your head. So you're saying I'm a big strong bull and you're all weak little fragile pieces of china, makes sense. Ah, you're an American, the country where they think "damn" and "crap" are swearwords. |

Oh my... you are a giggle. And well past any hope. Why? Because I didn't sign up for the modern softness everyone's caught? Back to the riddle for you.I will not play silly games. |

What AMD GPU's work? None. This is a cpu only project. A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

Hope so, I've got 2x Quadro K4200 in SLI mode waiting to be used. |

Small update. If it would be helpful .... let the volunteer base know what areas of expertise might possibly assist in your efforts for a GPU application. There are a lot of willing people who professionally have skills and knowledge that they would willingly give the project. Small update. You know you're quoting a post from almost a decade ago right? it's very unlikely that a GPU app will ever come out at this point. |

it's very unlikelyI've warned you before. |
