Last week we prepared the ULX application which is closely related to the previous (now obsolete) X-ray application. It is investigating the possibility of connecting the Ultraluminous X-ray sources (ULX) with X-ray binaries (XRB). We want to make a comprehensive study far wider than the one from the test project which was published in September. ULXs are one of the greatest conundrums currently investigated in astronomy and every month new observations are coming up. Our code is the best to deal with the problem of their nature from the theoretical side. ULXs are very rare systems. In our simulations only 1 XRB per 100 have a very short phase of such a high emission and only in some particular models. If you have any questions of comments concerning this application, please put them in this thread. Grzegorz Wiktorowicz National Astronomical Observatories, Chinese Academy of Sciences |

Why the increase in the ULX WU run time (3x-4x) with no change in credit? The universe_ulx_48_ WUs are taking 3-4 times longer than the previous WUs but still only pay the same 333.33. We weren't expecting that :\ |

We are currently working on very shorts series of parameters (single batch have only 2000 WU's for more than 5000 computers) but every batch takes different time to finish. Every time when I find really underscored jobs I'm manually fix it straight forward in database... Do users need to identify WUs that they think should be reviewed or do you have a script/program that reports WUs with CPU time/credit ratios to review? |

I have a bunch of ULX WUs running at the moment. Their initial estimated time was 1 min, 2 secs. There are 16 running just now; all have been running for over an hour. The most complete has been running for over 2 hours and only 79% complete. There seems to be something seriously wrong with the initial estimate. The first batch of these WUs had an initial estimate of around 2 hours although; all ran for over the 2 hour estimate and many for over 2.5 hours and more. Just curious as I still have a reasonable number of ULX WUs with the very low initial estimate time. I don't know how the scheduler deals with the work queue but I assume it must take in to account the expected time WUs in the queue have to run and presumably uses this to indicate whether the queue is full or further WUs can be accepted. I have a substantial number of WUs from other projects and no idea how long these ULX WUs will take to run. I will monitor the situation and will abort these WUs if I feel they will impact throughput for WUs from other projects. |

It is not just the ULX work units, I have a number of BHSpin work units that came with 3 second run times. They run for a bit over 3 hours for me on my AMD machines and the ULX types take a similar amount of time. So on Intel CPUs expect between 2 and 3 hours run time. As each of mine finishes the next starting WU gets a corrected run time, I am getting through them slowly as I too have other projects running at the same time. Conan |

Same here. I get a 1 day cache usualy, so, boinc has downloaded hundreds of WU. Now the first have been reported, the rest gets the correct time and my computers have now a cache for like a year !!! I'll have to cancel many WU as they will be outdated .... I also have a lot on computing errors on WU, maybe new version of app ? |

Hello, I am also having having the same issue. I contribute to two projects and I just got overloaded by new work units :-/. I am expecting most of them to not complete because of this. These are the BHspin work units. I actually had no recent issues with ULX. |

Will there be anymore ULX work units in the future? Or is BHSpin the main concern at the moment? Thanks Conan |

Will there be anymore ULX work units in the future? BHspin is the main concern at the moment but also some ULX tasks waiting for generation. I just need to find more time to work with work generator for it. Krzysztof 'krzyszp' Piszczek Member of Radioactive@Home team My Patreon profile Universe@Home on YT |

Norton threw out all your latest downloads as being a threat (or unknown or whatever they think of - they're constantly throwing out programs that I wrote and have used for years). So, I have no work left from you. Please send me some more ( just a couple so I can save hem from Norton). Thanks, Doug |
