Posted 18 Jul 2024 by ![]() Post: Well, I'm very pleased to hear that the project will go on. Super! That is incorrect. Project continuation is still undecided. What I wish is some information about the timeline for the decision to continue or shut down. Somebody needs to get CAMK to provide some insight to their decision process and when will that process happen. |

Posted 25 Jan 2024 by ![]() Post: I would have liked to get my Jetson SoC's running on Universe but alas there are no 32 bit libraries available in the Nvidia L4T distros. I could change them over to a normal Linux distro like Ubuntu but I would lose the standard Nvidia CUDA development installation that allows me to use the Nvidia gpus at Einstein where they are quite productive. Where did you find the 32bit libraries in L4T? I have a Nano 4GB original and a 4GB TX2-NX both running the L4T based on 18.04.6 LTS and I just get messages that any 32bit library is unavailable in the distro. |

can't install BOINC on Ubuntu
(Message 6267)
Posted 20 Sep 2023 by ![]() Post: Also very easy to resolve for any Debian based distro. Just add yourself to the BOINC group to get permission to launch the Boinc Manager. sudo usermod -aG boinc $USER Then just logoff the Desktop and login again or just reboot. To see if you are now in the boinc group, just issue: groupsin the Terminal. See here. https://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Installing_BOINC_on_Debian_or_Ubuntu or https://boinc.berkeley.edu/gui_rpc_passwd.php After adding yourself to boinc group you should have no issues launching Boinc Manager from the Desktop or Applications. |

Posted 23 Jun 2023 by ![]() Post: But then you mention the threadripper. Mine is a Ryzen 9 3900XT, not 7900. Can you link to a threadripper so I can have a look? I find it hard to believe they aren't way faster than mine. Sorry, forgot which Ryzen you have. The #2 Top Participant is a TR 3970X Threadripper. https://asteroidsathome.net/boinc/results.php?hostid=708920 Similar core count as your 3900XT - 12 cores/24 threads. He is running even faster than yours. 1900 seconds per task. NOT running hyperthreaded at 32 threads. Reported 41 tasks in the same scheduler connection. He is keeping the clock rate up at boost obviously by not running hyperthreaded. https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+Ryzen+Threadripper+3970X&id=3623 3.7Ghz base clock. But more likely closer to the 4.5Ghz boost clock based on the runtimes. This host proves your point. But I assert this host in an outlier from the general population. The most common and numerous processor is some Intel cpu, probably trending toward a Xeon with their lower clock speeds and longer runtimes. |

Posted 23 Jun 2023 by ![]() Post: The only reason why Einstein is at the top of the chart of my projects is because the Gamma-Ray gpu tasks award a very high credit award. And they run quickly with my anonymous application. And I've been doing Einstein the longest of all my existing current projects. I looked at other fast hosts on the top participants page similar to your Ryzen 9 7900XT and the Threadripper hosts have similar clock speeds but don't achieve the same runtimes as your lighter loaded 32 thread cpu. Your host is not typical of the general populace of hosts. I'm just saying that for most hosts, the cpu tasks take a lot longer to run and even with more tasks running at the same time, they don't achieve the same RAC as my hosts using a gpu. Also, I don't run Asteroids all by itself. It shares the gpus along with all my other gpu projects. Only 20% resource share. If I was using 100% resource share at Asteroids and exclusively running that project all by itself, like you do with a cpu only project, my RAC would be much, much higher. I only run one Asteroid task for every other 5 gpu tasks from Einstein, WCG and Numberfields. |

Posted 22 Jun 2023 by ![]() Post: Unless you are running an absolutely ancient card from the Kepler or Maxwell families, you will never be issued a CUDA55 application. Most people will be issued the CUDA102 or CUDA118 applications which are much faster and require much newer drivers. Those CUDA applications are much faster than running a task on the cpu. Productivity will be much greater also even if running cpu tasks on all cores. |
