Universe@home is with CPU one of the best payed project in credit in regards to other project.
usually if you compute themselve an own project with the virtual box with an I7 then he is giving with full power only 220 credits for a quarter of an hour computing for a chemistry project.
I explain:
I received an order to do that for a brilliant student of the chemistry high school of mulhouse. After solving the whole models in a quarter of an hour with 8 CPU i received 220 points.
This is the reason why i am sure that Universe@home computing is overpayed.
Instead that the boincer do critik upon the credit payment They should think that the project congratulate you for your computing because without your computing for boinc then we could not make significative advance in science.
Your Help bring the future of the planet and the first who benefit of this knoledge are your children at school or for other project your own medical system.
Best Regards

Why don't we eliminate credit altogether?
Everyone just be forced to crunch for science?

What a wonderful world it would be.....

Except the science wouldn't be getting done....... WHY?

Because most people don't live in a bubble or vacuum....... they live in a practical world where they get something in return for the massive outlays of cash it takes to crunch this work.....

What do we get? points on a screen in an electronic world.... we get nothing of any real value for the actual real value we generously give.... and to be told that the real value we give isn't worth the little bit of time and effort to be fair, or like here, that it isn't sufficient value to be fair. WE give real dollars in the form of computer purchases to set up farms or even a single machine, we give real dollars in the form of the monthly electric bills which are NOT getting cheaper.... all we ask in return is the little bit of time to recognize that by taking the time for tallying bits in the bitstream and publishing them, which is mostly done automatically with little in the way of scientist involvement....

Yet the scientists can't even do that in exchange for the massive REAL valuable resources freely given to their little dream project.........

You can have your egalitarian ideals, your welcome to them. but don't try to force them on me.....
The guilt you cite only serves to accentuate the arrogance the scientists are demonstrating by being so unfair....

Those are the points that tend to aggravate most of the common folk that are crunching the little dream projects the scientists care so much about.......

It's easy to rent a server farm now, maybe all the scientists can go rent the servers and hardware they need to do their projects and stop taking so much from those with less that still freely give........ (till it hurts sometimes)

let the scientists spend the hundreds of thousands of dollars needed to get their projects crunched.... and if they are unwilling to do such, then they shouldn't be insulting those who are making that donation willingly and happily.
But then I've been doing this long enough to know and understand that such is asking way too much from the scientific community and science lovers out there...
Dealing with people like the individual crunchers is a disdainful task for scientists, but a necessary one if they want their project to succeed.... As I said, they could always go to their university/corporate sponsor and ask that they spend the cash it takes to crunch their project and see how far that takes them...

Good luck with that....

Well, it's been about three days since the last batch of WU's were released.......

Has anyone seen a credit change yet?

I'm still seeing only 33% of what was.....

Ok.
I see that current points for WU's are problem for quite large group of us. Also, I see that small group of WU's now calculate even longer that most of them,
So, from next batch I will increase amount of credits by factor of 1.5 or 2 (I need bit more observation of current computation time)...

In practical reality, you should be increasing the points proportional to the increase in work done. since the increase was 3x (or thereabouts) the point increase should reflect that.

The only point in doing such an increase is to relieve server overwork from too many network requests.... but to penalize your clients/users for the amount of computer time and power they donate to you?

Nonsensical even from a scientific point of view. Yes you have a number of users who exclaim the science as their motivation, you will find that those who claim such only represent about 10% of the clients/users who contribute. The rest are motivated by the leaderboard..... Eliminate their ability to climb the leaderboard, you eliminate their desire to contribute to your project, just a fact of the Distributed Computing world......

Ultimately, you get to decide which direction you want your project to go......

But, many of your users, like me, have been crunching since before Boinc was even thought of. And if it wasn't for the leaderboard, there wouldn't be a Boinc.....
The leaderboard is what keeps your project viable from an operations standpoint... I know that isn't something most scientists want to recognize, but it is the facts of life in the DC world....

I sincerely hope you make a wise decision, and wish you well in your future endeavors with the project...

I am whining and I am leaving. Why on earth did you change the credit system in the middle of the game. What chance has another user who now just joined have to catch up to another user who crunched the same amount of time with the same machine and now have no chance of catching up since he is getting 67% less credit. This is not fair and is not for me. Good luck retaining your users.

I'm with Pete, it becomes an exercise in pointlessness.....

I think, we give too much credits recently. Seriously, at the time when I set credit it takes 6 hours to finish on single core on i7 CPU.
Recently, some tasks finish in 18 minutes on same machine.

I really don't like to be a person, who make "inflation" on BOINC projects...

Well, unfortunately, what your doing is credit deflation.

Your project, you can run it any way you like....
Obviously you don't like volunteer participation either......

To each his own I suppose....

Credit is going to plummet since they both receive the same 666.67 credit. Gridcoin might go elsewhere.

Triple the work is the same as reducing the compensation 66% for the same work....

Getting $150.00 an hour going down to $50.00 per hour?

I'll be finding myself a new job......

Got two machines not getting any work,

Haf2 which was doing work but was disconnected and reconnected this morning, and;

Blackhawk 1 which was connected 12 hours ago and still hasn't received the initial downloads.

Four other machines running fine.

what's up?
Server says there is plenty of work available.
