It's already a miracle that boinc still exists after so many years and maintained with hardly no funding and so little support, and also that so few project are still alive and maintained around the world (and most of them with no funding at all, only passion), with a number of volunteers decreasing year after year, so I think whining is not the best option.

I say "whining" on purpose because we should be cheering up the few admins that continue the tedious development and maintenance work on their spare time, and not throwing stones at them.

To be (slightly) less childish, what is surprising is that the whole "task blocked issue" has suddenly solved very quickly for most of our crunchers (who reported it) at l'AF.

So a huge saturation of the servers finally vanished in a very short time, for what is seems.

Curious.

(I said slightly less childish ;) )

I'm tired of this bullshit project. Fucking server sucks, the whole thing is run by amateurs who don't know what the fuck they're doing. Can't upload shit. Website nearly unresponsive. No sign of any action by the "administrator". Fuck off, I'm gone to put my time into a project that's worth the effort.

Bye

I couldn't agree more.

Bon courage Krzysztof (damn your name is so hard to type !!) tu verras bientôt le bout du tunnel ;)

There is currently a multi-team competition ongoing, including project Universe (among others), maybe the server is under quite a lot of stress at the moment ? I can't even reach the status page of the project, not responding...

I have a small debian host crunching on it for several days and I can see it cannot get any task neither.

edith : after a long time server status finally responded with 3kk tasks also, I think the machines fail to connect to the project due to overload.

I don't understand the point of your "answers" after my post, I'm just mentioning the fact that the credit for BHspin is fixed regardless of the task duration (double, triple...). Period.

If there is an explanation / justification / information for this, it is interesting.

If there is none, who cares.

Longer WU's allow us to check some models more deeply and also this change will unload server by giving us same data in less files...

But this is quite an old thread, maybe things / reasons changed since then...

And credits remained fixed regardless of task length.

No, credits also will be changed :)

Well, apparently, credits were never modified and are fixed regardless of task duration...

For any boinc project with quorum > 1 = the other boinc participant that calculates the same task as yours.

Destroying the inter-project credit balance, generating so much frustration to a majority of crunchers (without ASICS) who simply vanished in the statistics compared to others (with ASICS), pretending to compare things that cannot be compared (versatile computation vs. uniquely specialized coin calculation). At such a high level that some statistical sites decided to ignore BU credits (StatSeb) or show them in a separate view (BoincStats).

But the same thing already happened when GPGPU came into boinc world years before : putting into the same account calculation output (decision of Boinc itself pretending that "Gflops are Gflops") done from two different worlds (versatile unlimited CPU calculation against already specialized and limited GPU calculation - some projects will never be able to use a GPU application due to the nature of the calculation performed), the same frustration was created among the crunchers (GPU newcomers making in a few weeks what CPU crunchers had generated in the past 10 years) and the credit balance was already broken at that time.

Some statistical sites even decided to invent dedicated CPU ranking in order to restore equity among crunchers.

Why are invalid results giving credit at all? I've not seen another project give credit to invalids.

Fortunately there are some ! CPDN that can send you tasks lasting several weeks, task can crash for reason external to the user computer itself, who already gave a long CPU time for the project (for this task), so the boinc trickle message system will generate credit during the time of calculation, that are no lost even in case of crash of the task.

I think some other projects go the same - DHEP ?

Oh so that was the reason, too bad I only get it now because I was only helping my team during a 2 weeks group action on universe, it is now over and universe is just a memory now : during regular times of the year I only crunch on projects that propose a Mac OS X application.

Anyway thanks for the info, I'll post it on our forum.

PD : thinking about it I think I had installed an x64 version in the VM... ?

I gave up a few days after my last message and ran the project inside a Windows VM, and it worked fine...

The idea of having a linux VM was to minimize virtualisation overhead, but anyway...
