I'm working on server right now...Also, I have increased max WU send to client twice.

Thanks for the feedback, Krzysztof! I see that my hosts are slowly building up their caches.

...I have not had any problems downloading the work units in the past few weeks.

Not getting work when the server status shows plenty ready to send (even >3M, as of now) is not at all unusual, in my experience. I've been getting the "Project has no tasks available" message for about the last 12 hours on my four hosts, but I have gotten a few tasks every so often.

...I'm trying to get rid of an annoying notice from BOINC described in my first post but nobody replied :-( ...

Sorry to hear that you didn't get any help the first time around. In your first post you said "...I noticed that removing is impossible from BOINC manager because I centralized with BAM." I don't use BAM, so I'm not familiar with how you'd get around that. You might want to check the BAM forum over at BOINCstats. There's a thread about the issue and it looks like Willy is looking to hear from Krzysztof before making any changes.

Good luck!

5) Message boards : Number crunching : Significant Differences Between Run and CPU Times (Message 2452)
Posted 5 Nov 2017 by Profile ritterm
Post:
My apologies if I've missed discussion of this in an existing thread...

I've noticed that there are often significant differences in a work unit's run time and CPU time. In longer running tasks, I've seen differences of more than 10K seconds. It seems like these come in waves and may or may not be related to particular batches of work.

For example, Task 27936510: The run times for my AMD-Linux host and my wingman's Wintel machine were about the same. However, my CPU time was ~11K seconds less.

I'm wondering if it might be Linux-related as I've only noticed this on my two Linux hosts. However, they run a lot more tasks than the one Wintel host I have running right now.

In what may be a separate issue, I've noticed that these tasks can go on for hours after the last checkpoint. But, they continue to progress and eventually finish.

Hmm...I must be getting lucky. I haven't noticed any upload problems in at least the last 24 hours and I've had 22 cores/threads running full time.

Thanks, Krzysztof. Will do.

My apologies if I've missed this discussed elsewhere... I returned to this project after being away for awhile and just noticed that I've been getting this message on all hosts:

This project is using an old URL. When convenient, remove the project, then add https://universeathome.pl/universe/

Before I empty my cache and detach/re-attach, I'd like to know if this really necessary and effective. I've seen this message before at other projects and been through the detach/re-attach cycle only to find that the message (or something similar) persists. And, if that is the correct URL, I recommend that the project home page and instructions to join the project be updated.

Thanks for any feedback.

If any WU calculate longer then 6 hours feel free to abort it...

But if it keeps checkpointing and appearing to advance toward completion, is there any reason to abort?

I just noticed that this is happening to me right now.... While there were some UV Reionization tasks available, I unchecked the BHspin option and checked the "...accept work from other applications" option. After running out of UV Reionization tasks, I stopped getting any work. I've since changed my preferences and am now getting BHspin tasks.

Just wondering if the server settings are/were correct for the recent batch of UV Reionization work units. They show as needing a quorum of 2, but a third task was being sent long before the deadline for either of the wingmen.

is the problem fixed? because there are new tasks unsent, but i don't get work

Only BHspin tasks have been available recently and now that queue is empty. As Krzysztof noted elsewhere in this thread, there is a problem with the ULX tasks and those aren't being sent out.

It doesn't look like the number of unsent ULX tasks on the server status page has changed in a few days and there are no tasks in progress. Are they being held back on purpose or is there a problem with the server?

In case it helps with anything that can be identified, here's one I aborted after noticing it had been running for over two days on one of my Win10 hosts:

Is there a '10' in the task name near the end? They've been known to take several times as long as normal tasks.

The one I aborted after about 43 hours was universe_bh2_160803_35_3_20000_1-999999_925000_1.

For me, Linux (on this host). It doesn't show in the stderr output, but it had been running for about 43 hours when I aborted it.

I terminated one after 43 hours on 25 December. I doubt that it is a proper work unit.
I'm going to abort the long runner I have -- it's made no progress and the time remaining hasn't changed in over 3 hours.
